100’s of Realtors Rally at Newtown CT Moving Company Warehouse

On September 12th, more than 300 people from local chapters of the Women’s Council of Realtors held an event at the Clancy warehouse in Newtown, CT.  While having a great time, they raised over $12,818. to benefit The Newtown Rotary Club-Sandy Hook SchoolFund.  And the event was one that many attendees said they would love to do again.

The evening of networking, wine tasting, live music and raffle prizes started with planning earlier in the year.  Leaders from different Women’s Council of Realtor Chapters had met with Tom Grimes of Clancy Relocation & Logistics.  WCR Chapter Presidents: Carol Christiansen (Empire-Westchester), Dawn Salamone (Dutchess County),  Melissa Lanza (Greater Hudson Valley), Floria Polverari (Southern CT) and Margaret Nagy (Greater Danbury) had each also wanted to do something more to aid the Newtown/Sandy Hook community.

Tom Grimes helped bring leaders from different chapters together to meet with others on the Clancy team: John Clancy, Bruce Davidson and myself about using the warehouse and a plan was developed.  Local chapters would come together in a new event called, “A UNIQUE REALTOR to REALTOR NETWORKING OPPORTUNITY” (or R2R for short).  Sandy Hook resident Paige Kousidis of AFR American Furniture Rentals donated equipment and also helped organize the warehouse’s conversion.  On the night of the event, members from several chapters arrived by the busload to take part in a great cause as well as network with each other.

The participating chapters were:

  • New York Chapters: Dutchess County, Empire Westchester and the Greater Hudson Valley
  • Connecticut Chapters: Greater Danbury and Southern Fairfield

In addition to the outstanding generosity of the attendees, the event was a fun experience.  The jazz band, wine tasting, hors d’oeuvres and very large crowd made the warehouse space a lively atmosphere.  Members met several new people through the speed networking portion of the evening.  Phil Faranda, of J. Philip Real Estate in Briarcliff Manor, NY, also provided an educational networking workshop.

100% of the money collected is going to be presented to the Newtown Rotary.  Everyone is deeply touched by what took place.  It is important to remember what happened and look for better ways to protect our children from violence and suffering.   We are pleased to support The Newtown Rotary who will use the money to help local families and first responders.

With Thanks

On behalf of all of us at Clancy Relocation & Logistics, we’d like to thank the WCR chapters, attendees and fellow sponsors for their outstanding generosity.  At the time the 12/14/12 Sandy Hook tragedy occurred, it was only a few months after purchasing our new warehouse.  It was an honor to share our support alongside Realtors within our community by hosting this unique networking event to benefit the families and first responders.  And a long list of sponsors also deserve recognition for their generous contributions.
